No. We have teams in two-wheel-drive sedans, off-road coaches, vans, 4WDs, even aeroplanes! High clearance is important. We recommend 4WDs because back roads can be challenging in the wet.
The majority of participants travel in their own vehicle tag-a-long style. However, if you would like someone else to take over the driving, you can take a seat in the Outback Aussie Tours luxury 4WD coach. See our packages which include Outback Aussie Tours coach travel. As another option you could fly into Emerald and pick up a hire car there. Please contact Avis in Emerald to find out about one way hires to Longreach.
All vehicles have to be in roadworthy condition, registered and insured.
As soon as you register you will be directed to the RACQ scrutineering venue where your vehicles will be adorned with Trailblazer numbers, logos and sponsors’ decals.
No. The RACQ patrols and our official starter will call up all vehicles at every start. Smile for the TV cameras!
Yes, both. You will be advised at registration in Emerald about the initial briefing. Thereafter, there will be a briefing nightly at dinner.

It is usually warm. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes and casual campfire clothes are best. There are prizes for themed team costumes (optional) and best-presented corporate team. Don’t forget your PJs.
